The Indonesian Postage Stamps of
Revolution Series Printed Overseas
These postage stamps consist of :
- Postage stamps printed in Austria by the
Staats Druckerei di Vienna using the photo engraving
method.
- Postage stamps printed in USA be the E.W.
Wright Bank Note Company Philadelphia using the steel
engraving method. These postage stamps consist of three
high values (5, 10, and 25 rupiah) and blockade series.
Through individual contracts with several
countries, ordinary and registered letters reach overseas
countires included USA. The postage stamps printed at that time
included the following :
- Airmail postage stamps potrayed beautiful
scene and the glory of the Indonesian Air force, used for
overseas mail and were aimed at making the Indonesian
Republic known.
- Postage stamps for overseas mail which
bore the inscription "RESMI" (official) were
used for specific requirements.
- Postage stamps to commemorate the failure
of the Dutch blockade. These postage stamps dipicted the
penetration of the Dutch blockade, both in the air an on
the sea by showing harbour and airfields.
- Postage stamps which were repeat orders
and bore the letters "oe" which later became
"u".
- Postage stamps with the isncription "pos
udara" (airmail) which were issued on 17th August
1949 after the Dutch Army left Yogyakarta.
At first it was planned to circulate these
postage stamps on 15th December 1948, but due to some
difficulties, the selling of the postage stamps at the post
office of Yogyakarta started on 17th December 1949. The selling
period of these stamps ended on 1st March 1950 but it could be
used up to 1st August 1951.
