AUSTRALIA 99, as the Melbourne World Stam Expo dubbed, was held from 19~24 March 1999 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. It is the second time Australia hold world stamps exhibition after the first one, Auspex 84, which was also held in Melbourne. In addition to three FIP competitive classes, namely Traditional, Postal Stationery, and Revenues, the exhibition also display an experimental class, Social Philately.

Indonesia participates in the exhibition by issuing a souvenir heet depicting eastern tarsier (Tarsius sectrum). Weighs only 120 grams, this nocturnal animal is one of the smallest primates in the world. Eastern can be found in North Sulawesi and it is now used as the mascot of the province.
