INDONESIAN ART AND CULTURE 1997

This stamps issue is the continuation of the other series of "Indonesian Art and Culture". The series of this year depicts dances from five provinces, namely North Sumatra, Central Java, Bali, Central Kalimantan and Central Sulawesi. North Sumatra presents Bowl Dance in which the dancers show their skill in playing bowls. Gambyong Pare Anom Dance represents Central Java, picturing a teenage girl. Bali is represented by Legong Keraton Dance. From Central Kalimantan, there is Mandau Talawang Nyai Balau Dance. This dance is a heroism and war dance with traditional weapons named Mandau and Talawang used by Dayak people. Central Sulawesi is represented by Mopuputi Cangke Dance, picturing girls picking cloves.
